Spotify Playlist: April showers bring May flowers

A rainy day playlist.

By Soraya Keiser | News Reporter

With the passing days and rising temperatures, one thing has seemed almost always a constant. Yep, you guessed it, rain. When I walk to my first class, rain. When I get pad thai for lunch from the DC on Thursdays, rain. When I go to sleep at night, rain. I mean, even as I write this, it’s raining. The endless patter of rain can quickly become a source of angst and gloom, but it doesn’t have to! Just think of all the pretty flowers that will start to pop up soon. So grab a chai latte, find a good book and curl up listening to the sound of rain intermingled with these chill tunes.

  1. “July” by Noah Cyrus & Leon Bridges

The buttery combination of Noah Cyrus and Leon Bridges’ voices is one of the most calming things I have ever heard.

  1. “Arms” by The Paper Kites

This song is about holding someone in your arms, and if that doesn’t cheer you up on a dreary day, I don’t know what will.

  1. “Rainbow” by Kacey Musgraves

Did anyone see a rainbow this past week? There was definitely a possibility for many.

  1. “When the Night is Over” by Lord Huron

I think I have a Lord Huron song for every occasion. This is the one for rainy days.

  1. “Steamroller” by Phoebe Bridgers

Phoebe Bridgers has the raw voice and striking guitar chords to cut through any raincloud.

  1. “lovely” by Billie Eilish & Khalid

This is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. I mean, just listen to that cello and piano!

  1. “Heartbeats” by José González

Honestly, almost all of José González’s music fits the chill rainy day vibe.

  1. “Cherry Wine – Live” by Hozier

Hozier’s voice could put me to sleep, and I mean that in the best way possible. He is so soothing.

  1. “The Wisp Sings” by Winter Aid

This song feels like it should be part of a movie soundtrack. I dare you to pretend you’re in a movie when you listen to it.

  1.  “Motherland” by Natalie Merchant

A cozy little lullaby.

  1. “If I Go, I’m Goin” by Gregory Alan Isakov

Perfect for your wandering rainy day adventures.

  1. “Jealous” by Labrinth

Labrinth makes me sad in this song, but it is so beautiful.

I'm a sophomore English and journalism student at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota. I like reporting on people who make a difference in communities, sparking change through headlines and finding the people on the margins with high stakes. I also like cardigans with pockets, Caribou mochas and the surreal feeling of standing under a streetlight at 2 a.m. I want to edit stories from unrecognized writers and connect people through words.
