No more than 25 minutes from campus: the best coffee shops to visit this fall.
By Hannah Hunhoff
Vibrant hues of red, brown and orange float off the trees encircling the Lake Valentine trail. A breeze of chilly fall air hits your face as you rush out of your dorm in extra layers of clothing. Thoughts of a quick mid-day adventure at a local Twin Cities coffee shop flood your mind as you crave a seasonal drink to accompany the arrival of fall and mounds of homework.
If you’re looking to refine your coffee palette on a whim, check out the following top coffee shops that are 25 minutes or less away from Bethel University.
Dogwood Coffee
Dogwood Coffee (Northeast location) serves as a go-to study spot for many Bethel students. Its functional seating areas combined with abstract mural wall art creates an Instagram-worthy aesthetic. I recommend ordering a “sweet potato maple bourbon latte” from their fall menu, which harmonizes savory and sweet flavors that will satisfy your inner coffee connoisseur.
Spyhouse Coffee
Just around the corner on Broadway Avenue is Spyhouse Coffee (Northeast), located in the former Land-O-Nod Mattress Factory. As you walk into the main door, take note of its rustic wood paneling, vintage chandeliers, assortment of cactus plants and paintings of dogs that contribute to its shabby-chic theme. Go with the classic “Carmella” vanilla and caramel latte, or if you’re feeling adventurous, order the “Spy Girl” honey-lavender latte.
FRGMT Coffee
If you’re looking to venture farther into the heart of Minneapolis, FRGMT Coffee (pronounced ‘fragment’) is just minutes away from U.S. Bank Stadium. FRGMT’s modern and stylish interiors are furnished with colorful yarn art, greenery, a stylish fireplace and white lattice paneling laid over walls. Ask the barista about their secret menu and order the “Café Miel”, a honey and cinnamon latte which pairs perfectly with one of their house-made blueberry cake donuts.
Limu Coffee
If you’re looking to avoid the city traffic and be immersed in a welcoming study spot, venture to Limu Coffee, a family-owned-and-operated Ethiopian coffeehouse in New Brighton. Stick with a classic and order a hot white mocha, which contains sweet notes of white satin syrup paired with steamed milk and their authentic espresso.
Corner Coffee
Check out Corner Coffee (North Loop), one of the crown jewel coffee shops of the Twin Cities. Its homey and inviting atmosphere is filled with a rustic collection of Minnesota-themed decor and light-up signs. Give their Nordic Latte a shot. It’s an eight ounce latte paired with vanilla, cinnamon and cardamom that is perfect for fall.
