Men’s soccer falls to Macalester
The Bethel University men’s soccer team lost 3-1 in a game against Macalester College Sept. 28 on Ona Orth. In the 27th minute, Macalester locked in the only goal of the first half. It started with a corner kick made by forward Branko Sciortino, assisted by Julian Evans, and smacked into the net by Jacob Kresnicka. In the 26th minute, Senior Isaac Howell secured the first score for Bethel with an assist from Freshman Silas Ihde. “Silas did a great job getting his head up and putting in a dangerous cross,” Howell said. “For me, it was just trying to win my one-vs-one matchup and make a positive play on the ball.” The Royals attempted to score a second time, coming close countless times, but couldn’t quite pull it off.

Women’s soccer falls short against St. Kate’s
Bethel went up against long-time rival, St. Catherine’s University, at the home field of Ona Orth Wednesday night, playing its “best game yet,” Smith said. They brought the momentum through countless back-and-forth possessions, saves and strong teamwork. After rushing up the field, the Royals turned the ball over near the Wildcats’ box. That subsequently led to a three-pass sequence for St. Kate’s, which led to a breakaway goal in the bottom left corner. Trailing 1-0, BU was given a fighting chance with a free-kick 15 minutes into the second half. Kelsey Bergan, winding up her right leg, met the ball with power and the ball took flight, curving right into the diving hands of St. Kate’s goalkeeper Kate Praetz. In the end, St Kate’s beat Bethel 1-0.
