Senior Christina Castañeda sits in the BUILD office alongside first-year student in BUILD Molly Thompson. Next year, Castañeda’s younger sister Cynthia will be joining the BUILD program. “She will make friends wherever she goes,” Castañeda said. “I think she’s excited to gain those friends and that independence.”
A hands-on approach to education
Junior Isaac Lange leans toward the presentation in Wednesday’s BBEA meeting. Lange is a director in BBEA,a marketing major and a football player. “[Business students should] jump in,” Lange said. “You’ll never know if you’ll like something unless you do it.”
Business beyond Bethel
Professor Victor Ezigbo presents a lecture addressing religious violence in Nigeria at the University of Jos in July 2018. “In Nigeria, if you are powerful, it is very rare for you to be held accountable,” Ezigbo said. “You have to deal with the issue of corruption and leaders who don’t quite understand what it means to invest in the country and invest in the future of those nations.”

Bethel University vs. Saint John’s
Fifth-year quarterback George Bolt hugs his mom after Bethel University’s first football game of the season Sept. 9. The Wartburg Knights beat the Royals 16-2. “If I’m choosing to come back, I’m choosing to come back fully invested regardless. Even in those frustrating points, I’m going to choose to enjoy this because I can control that,” Bolt said.

The Egg: September 11

As the third week of school begins you are probably hoping to see something other than the empty, dark halls of the Clausen Center – here are seven things happening on and off campus this week.

  1. Student Activities is hosting Bingo Friday at 7 p.m. in the Grill. If you’re lucky enough to win, the prizes include the best air fryer Bethel has to offer.
  2. See if you can beat your friends in volleyball – or play on a team with them – Saturday starting at 2 p.m. The lawn volleyball tournament put on by Clubs, Organizations and Intramurals costs $20 per team with a $100 prize. Register here. 
  3. Bethel’s pipe organ is ready for its midlife crisis! Watch the 40-year-old pipe organ celebrate its birthday with a free concert Sunday at 2 p.m. in Benson Great Hall. Get tickets here to reserve your spot.
  4. Stock up on Instagram posts for “Christian girl autumn” at Aamodt’s Apple Orchard in Stillwater, open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
  5. Bring your friends or even family to the free Fiesta Latina festival Saturday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. for live music, food, entertainment and raffles at CLUES Fiesta Latina in St. Paul. 
  6. ALWAYS FREE: The Como Zoo and Minneapolis Institute of Art will bring you to a place of controlled chaos. Yes, there are children running around, but at least there’s no homework. 
  7. 16 days until Men’s Dance. Need I elaborate?
