Policies and Terms of Use

By using the Clarion website and its social media platforms, you agree to follow its terms of use and policies. The Clarion has the right to change these policies at any time.

The Clarion supports free speech and the agency of the public forum, meaning as a consumer of the Clarion, you have the ability to post comments reacting to Clarion material on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and the Clarion’s website. By engaging in the public forum, you agree to the following terms of use:

You agree not to submit inappropriate content. Inappropriate content includes any content that:

  1. Infringes or violates the rights of another person
  2. Is demonstrably libelous
  3. Is obscene, profane, vulgar or sexually explicit
  4. Contains advertising or solicitation
  5. Contains personal attacks, threats of violence or predatory language
  6. Is discriminatory in any way of a person’s gender, race, class, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or disability.
  7. You agree that you are fully responsible for the content that you submit and that although you maintain the right to remove it on your own, as soon as it enters the public forum, the Clarion has the right to review, modify, delete or disseminate it. By using the Clarion public comment sections, you acknowledge that any comments you make, (i.e., user-generated content of any kind such as: comments, video, audio and photographs) on any platform, may be edited, removed, modified, published, transmitted, and displayed by the Clarion and you waive any rights you may have in having the material altered or changed in a way you do not like.
  8. You understand and agree that we are not responsible for any user-generated content. You further understand that we cannot review every comment, but we have the right to monitor comment feeds on all of our platforms, including social media sites, and we may remove content that we deem inappropriate for any reason whatsoever without your consent. Although we support the public forum and the ability to post and discuss on social platforms, we may disallow or delete any user-generated comment at any time, with or without notice to you.
  9. If a user violates any of these terms aforementioned, the Clarion reserves the right to suspend that user’s access to any of its platforms.


Comments posted to the Clarion website must be approved before they appear publicly, which the editor-in-chief or web manager does on a case-by-case basis to prevent spam from appearing on our site. Comments are almost always approved unless they contain personal attacks, threats of violence, derogatory language, obscene material, spam, discriminatory speech, or if a person is believed to be in danger.

The same goes for social media platforms, specifically Facebook or Instagram. Although one of the many benefits of a public forum is the ability to hear, share and respond to ideas that may be different from your own, the Clarion reserves the right to review and delete comments at any time if they contain personal attacks, threats of violence, derogatory language, obscene material, spam, discriminatory speech, or if a person is believed to be in danger. Content will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the leadership staff.

Social media platforms serve as an essential service for public forum. While the Clarion has a Facebook page, Clarion staffers do not control Facebook’s terms of service, which may cause comments to be flagged or removed. Users control their own comments, too, which means that any time a user may choose to delete their own comment.

Only approved Clarion staff members may use the Clarion’s social media platforms to respond to comments.
