France is making waves in the video game industry, with the Montpellier game Clair Obscur: Expédition 33 breaking records since its release. It appears the French gaming success story is far from over. Meanwhile, a well-known franchise is poised for a comeback not through a sequel, but with an unexpected spin-off set to expand the universe of this beloved series.
Expanding the Legacy of a Beloved French Franchise
For those hoping for a spin-off of the acclaimed Clair Obscur: Expédition 33, that is not the case. The upcoming title is not related to the Dishonored saga developed by Lyon’s Arkane Studios. Instead, the focus is on Bordeaux-based Asobo Studio, which previously captivated players with the stories of young Amicia and her brother Hugo in A Plague Tale: Innocence and A Plague Tale: Requiem.
In both installments of the A Plague Tale series, players followed the harrowing journey of the young siblings from the noble De Rune family, grappling with the horrors of the Inquisition, the plague, and its swarms of rats. The first game unfolds in a fantastical version of the Hundred Years’ War in southwestern France, while the sequel expands the narrative into Provence and the fictional island of La Cuna in the Mediterranean.
Introducing Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy
In A Plague Tale: Requiem, players met Sophia, a smuggler who becomes a pivotal character in the latter part of the adventure. Asobo Studio is now preparing a new installment centered around Sophia, titled Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, set to be a prequel.
This new chapter will take players back fifteen years prior to the events of A Plague Tale: Requiem, exploring the Minotaur Island enveloped by an ancient curse that dates back to Minoan civilization.
