After a long wait, James Gunn’s Superman has finally hit theaters, marking the start of an exciting new era for the DC Universe. Following this much-anticipated release, fans are eager to learn about upcoming projects. Here are six highly anticipated titles to look forward to!
#1 Supergirl
Debuting at the end of Superman, Kara Zor-El, Clark Kent’s cousin, will star in her own film, scheduled for release on June 24, 2026. The movie, featuring Australian actress Milly Alcock—known for her role as Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon—is inspired by the comic Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King, promising a more “hardcore” interpretation of the character. Unlike Superman, which focuses on Earth, Supergirl will venture into space, and anticipation is high following the success of Superman.
#2 Peacemaker – Season 2
Three years after its debut, Peacemaker will return to HBO Max on August 23, 2025. As a part of James Gunn’s DCU, this spin-off from The Suicide Squad is set to extend the excitement surrounding Superman. Notably, a character from the show makes a cameo in the film. The first season was well-received for its direction and fresh storytelling, and the first trailer for season 2 hints at Christopher Smith (John Cena) facing another version of himself. We can’t wait!
#3 Lanterns
Set to debut in 2026, the series Lanterns is shaping up to be a thrilling addition. Developed by Chris Mundy alongside comic writer Tom King and Damon Lindelof (Lost, The Leftovers, Watchmen), the show will feature two Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan and Jon Stewart, investigating a murder in Nebraska. It has been likened to the acclaimed series True Detective and will see the return of Guy Gardner, who appeared in both Superman and season 2 of Peacemaker. Our excitement is palpable!
#4 Swamp Thing
Following the announcement of the DCU and its first chapter, Gods and Monsters, James Gunn revealed the development of a Swamp Thing film. Fans may be surprised to see this iconic character introduced so soon, but the project has generated excitement, especially for those familiar with his stories crafted by legendary writer Alan Moore. The film will be directed by James Mangold, recognized for his exceptional work on Logan, Copland, and Ford v Ferrari. We are curious to see what he brings to this beloved character!
#5 Batman: The Brave and The Bold
Now that the new Superman has been introduced, fans are eagerly awaiting the DCU’s take on Batman. Postponed to avoid clashing with Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II, scheduled for 2027, Batman: The Brave and The Bold will be directed by Andy Muschietti. While the dismal performance of The Flash raises concerns, Muschietti’s successful track record with the It saga provides some reassurance.
#6 Clayface
Recently announced, Clayface will focus on the iconic villain well-known to fans of Batman: The Animated Series. Developed by the talented Mike Flanagan, recognized for The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass, the film will be directed by James Watkins and co-produced by James Gunn and Matt Reeves. We firmly believe in this promising project!
