The duality of the Gemini Gold Saints in Saint Seiya offers fans a mix of enjoyment and disappointment. Represented almost always as a pair, these characters can either be unforgettable or easily forgotten. This article ranks the Gemini Gold Saints from the darkest to the brightest.
Ranking of the Gemini Gold Saints
#9 Integra
Integra makes an abrupt entrance as a new Gemini Saint during the battle against Pallas in Saint Seiya Omega. Her role is confined to defeating her sister, and she lacks any significant character development outside of this encounter.
#8 Abel
As Cain’s “shadow,” Abel had the potential to be a significant threat in Next Dimension. However, his Genro Mao Ken technique proved ineffective, as Suikyo easily escaped it with no repercussions. Abel ultimately fades from the narrative when Cain confronts Odysseus, marking a disappointing end for a character with untapped potential.
#7 Cain
Cain, while powerful as demonstrated in his battle against Ikki, lacks true depth in personality. He appears as a weak version of Saga, similar to how Ox is for the Taurus. Together, Abel and Cain form one of the least compelling duos among the Gemini Gold Saints in Saint Seiya.
#6 Paradox
In contrast to her sister Integra, Paradox undergoes slightly more character development. While Omega attempts to address her multiple personality disorder, the execution falls short. She briefly redeems herself by joining Pallas, only to face a predictable defeat followed by a cliché redemption arc.
#5 Sojiro
Sojiro stands out as a major protagonist in Saint Seiya: Dark Wing, devoid of any personality disorder, embodying a fundamentally good character. His relationship with his brother Shoichiro, one of the three judges of the Underworld, adds a unique dynamic, despite the inherent tension. As a powerful and virtuous Saint, Sojiro represents the ideal Knight—now it remains to be seen if he can evolve beyond this polished image to become truly memorable.
#4 Kanon
Kanon is introduced as a villain but gains depth when he switches allegiances. He impressively intervenes between Athena and Poseidon, establishing himself as a worthy wearer of the Gemini Gold Saint armor. His ultimate recognition comes in Episode G – Assassin, where he becomes Grand Pope, though his appearances are unfortunately scarce.
#3 Saga
Saga is undoubtedly the most iconic Gemini Gold Saint. A legendary antagonist from the original series, his character suffers an unfortunate fate in Saint Seiya Origin, which reveals that a Lemur implanted by the goddess Ker catalyzed his evil side. The anime adapts this narrative better. For the best representation of Saga in manga, one should look to Episode G, where he learns to become Grand Pope and plays a key role in the battle against Cronos.
#2 Deuteros
Deuteros is the “cursed” brother of the Gemini sign, and unlike others in similar situations, he accepts his fate, despite his profound loneliness. His narrative is deeply tragic, yet after being defeated by his brother, he chooses to remain by his side by merging with the Gemini armor. Through his actions, Deuteros opens up to others, protects them, and ultimately liberates himself from the image of the wild beast of Kanon’s island.
#1 Aspros
Aspros’ story is just as compelling as Deuteros’. Like Saga in Saint Seiya Origin, the Gemini Knight of the 18th century is tainted by a god. His past closely resembles that of his 20th-century counterpart, differing mainly in his failure to achieve his goals. He only reemerges later, deliberately siding with Hades. It is only after killing Deuteros that he frees himself from the Genro Mao Ken—a fate he had imposed on himself two years earlier. This awakening allows Aspros to become a significant player in the final battle against Hades, even defeating Yoma from Mephistopheles, one of the main antagonists of The Lost Canvas.
