Movie Review: Tickling Giants

I first heard about Tickling Giants in my entertainment reporting course when English professor Scott Winter began class one day showing the movie trailer. He recommend we go see it. I typically don’t watch documentaries for fun, in fact, I rarely watch documentaries to begin with, but this documentary looked different.   As a journalist and with today’s political world, I knew I needed to see this. Not only did the MSP film look interesting and funny, but it held potential in teaching me something valuable. This film would show me a glimpse into Egypt’s world during the Arab Spring, which I honestly didn’t know much about. I brought along a friend of mine who is very opinionated to say the least. I sat next to him and laughed next to him in St.Anthony Main Theater hoping maybe just maybe this will open his eyes to a different perspective. It… Keep Reading

Monday Morning Coffee: Cahoots Coffee Bar

Because everyone needs at least one cup of coffee on a Monday! Lexi Friesen | Social Media Editor Coffee Shop: Cahoots Coffee Bar Menu/Prices: I paid $4.09 for a white mocha. It wasn’t too sugary, but I could taste the white chocolate. It was the perfect temperature – it didn’t feel like my tongue was licking the devil himself, nor did I want to gag from the lukewarm warm drink. Good temperature coffee is something I have learned to not take for granted. Plus, the barista brought my drink to my table and put it in a ceramics mug, rather than a plastic to go cup. The quirky shop made me feel right at home. My friend, Hope Laroche, ordered a decaf chai tea. The cost was $3.61 and Hope agreed hers was also the perfect temperature. On a scale of one to ten (in comparison to Royal Grounds), Hope called… Keep Reading

Monday Morning Coffee: Ebenezer’s Coffeehouse

Because everyone needs at least one cup of coffee on a Monday! Lexi Friesen | Social Media Editor *Disclaimer: This week’s edition is a Spring Break Special – part of my Spring Break was spending a day in Washington D.C.! Through a series of complicated events, including a bible study I am in, four books, and my obsession over coffee, I found Ebenezer’s Coffeehouse, had a fan-girl moment, and forced four of my friends to come with me to find this shop. Coffee Shop: Ebenezer’s Coffeehouse Menu/Prices: Ebenezer’s has many different drinks to choose from – including some unique tea combinations that I had never heard of before. This past week was Ebenezer’s 10th anniversary! In honor of their birthday, they created a Birthday Cake Latte and I couldn’t resist. The cost was $4.13, but it was everything you would ever hope and dream a Birthday Cake Latte could be… Keep Reading

Monday Morning Coffee: Silverwood Cafe

Because everyone needs at least one cup of coffee on a Monday! Lexi Friesen | Social Media Editor Coffee Shop: Silverwood Cafe Menu/Prices: One of the things I love about Silverwood Cafe is the simple menu. And by simple, I mean it looks relatively simple until you order a steamer and they tell you about the 30 different flavored shots you can add. I ordered the gingerbread steamer (12 oz – $2.30 – not a bad price!) recommended to me by the barista. He also recommended the vanilla steamer, but he said he was “a Christmas guy no matter the weather” and that the gingerbread was his favorite. Did it smell good? Yes. Did it taste good? Absolutely, I would order it again! Atmosphere: A coffee shop for all ages – young families with children, catch up dates for moms and Sunday afternoon relaxing for grandparents. It’s probably not the… Keep Reading

Monday Morning Coffee: Sencha Tea Bar

Because everyone needs at least one cup of coffee on a Monday! Lexi Friesen | Social Media Editor Coffee Shop: Sencha Tea Bar – formerly known as The Tea Garden Menu/Prices: For a full menu and prices, follow this link – http://senchateabar.com/our-menu/. I  tried a coffee-chocolator cooler with tapioca bubbles ($3.79) and a chocolate-banana shake with tapioca bubbles($3.79). Atmosphere: Personally, I am in favor of the new atmosphere. Sencha Tea Bar repainted their shop with a cream and navy blue color scheme. The lighting is brighter, but still good mood lighting. The art is a different style, and there is less of it hanging on the walls. A great place for conversation with friends or to go on a date to, I will say that I could see myself going here more for homework now since the remodeling. Seating: There is seating lining all of the walls. No big… Keep Reading

Monday Morning Coffee: J. Arthur’s

Because everyone needs at least one cup of coffee on a Monday! Lexi Friesen | Social Media Editor Coffee Shop: J. Arthur’s Menu/Prices: Aztec Mocha – $3.75 The Aztec Mocha is a seasonal drink, and there is also an Aztec Hot Chocolate. I was intrigued by the cinnamon and chocolate in the drink, however, I didn’t account for any other additional spices and how much might be added to the drink. While it wasn’t my favorite drink I’ve had, it definitely wasn’t the worst. Other good drinks that I’ve had previously here include Iced White Chocolate Mochas and their plain lattes. Atmosphere: There are several larger rooms beyond the main room. This makes J. Arthur’s the perfect place for studying. Seating: Seating is plentiful and there are larger tables in the back. Music: Gentle background music only enhances the experience at J. Arthur’s, and there is live music every… Keep Reading

Monday Morning Coffee: Urban Bean

Because everyone needs at least one cup of coffee on a Monday! Lexi Friesen | Social Media Editor Coffee Shop: Urban Bean (Lake St, Minneapolis, MN) Prices: Iced White Mocha $4.50 … According to senior Nikki Betzler, Urban Bean’s Iced White Mocha’s are at least twice as good as Royal Grounds version. White Coconut Johnson (Specialty Drink) $5 … It wasn’t quite the coconut flavor I was expecting, more of a pumpkin spice/cinnamon flavor. It wasn’t bad, I wasn’t in love with it and especially for $5, I probably wouldn’t get it again. For more on the drink menu and prices, click here: http://urbanbeancoffee.com/menu/ Atmosphere: While the gray, sticky, scratched floor didn’t impress upon first appearance, the overall atmosphere is classy. White walls with simple black lettering and pictures gave Urban Bean a peaceful and simple impression. The white walls and big windows provided great lighting in the daytime,… Keep Reading
