Uniswap’s governance token has seen a notable increase in price, surpassing $5.20 after previously dipping to $4.87. This surge coincides with the community’s preparations for a significant governance proposal vote, which could potentially lead to the destruction of 100 million UNI tokens.
Uniswap Price Surpasses $5.20
As of December 18, 2025, the price of Uniswap hovered around $5.24. Daily gains approached 4%, with bullish sentiment reviving after a recent slump that saw prices below $5.40, particularly following news that Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin sold 1,400 UNI tokens.
Initially, this selling pressure caused UNI’s value to drop to $4.99. However, it rebounded to $5.30 after Bitcoin experienced a notable rally earlier in the week.

Despite the recent uptick, the market appeared to overlook this increase, as trading pressure resumed and prices fell back below $4.90. However, interest in buying resurfaced today, providing hope for a potential rebound.
The ability of UNI to stabilize and aim for gains above the support level of $5.20 is likely to be bolstered as the community evaluates upcoming governance proposals regarding token fees and potential burns.
Uniswap Set for 100 Million UNI Token Burn
As highlighted, a key driver behind the recent price action is the proposed “unification” governance initiative. Hayden Adams, the founder of Uniswap, submitted a governance proposal for a vote scheduled to begin on December 19, 2025, at 10:30 PM EST, with the voting period concluding on December 25.
If approved, this proposal aims to remove 100 million UNI tokens from circulation. Specifically, it intends to switch fee switches for both v2 and v3 pools on the mainnet.
Adams noted, “The v2 + v3 fee switches will be activated on the mainnet and will begin burning UNI, alongside Unichain fees.”
As the community gears up for the vote, the outcome of this proposal could represent a pivotal moment for Uniswap’s price trajectory.
The token previously traded at highs of $7.70 in mid-November, making the implications of this governance vote particularly significant.
