The animated series Eyes of Wakanda is gradually revealing more about its narrative, featuring new visuals of the warriors from the Wakandan nation. The eagerly anticipated series is set to premiere this summer on Disney+.
Eyes of Wakanda: Marvel’s Animated Summer Series
While the spotlight is on the upcoming film Thunderbolts and the theatrical debut of The Fantastic Four: First Steps on July 23, Marvel is not neglecting the small screen. In addition to Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man and the forthcoming Marvel Zombies, Marvel will present Eyes of Wakanda. This animated series will explore the adventures of the Hatut Zeraze, an elite unit of warriors tasked with retrieving fragments of Vibranium, the precious metal integral to Wakanda. Produced by Ryan Coogler, known for his work on the Black Panther films, the series will consist of four episodes.
Coogler opted for animation as a means to depict the various eras experienced by the warriors more easily and cost-effectively than with a live-action film, which often requires extensive special effects. The events in this series will be woven into the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s timeline, suggesting viewers can expect familiar faces and locations familiar to Marvel fans.
New Visuals Unveiled for Eyes of Wakanda
The series has already teased a glimpse of its content through several images showcasing the Wakandan warriors, revealing a hand-painted visual style. Recently, two new characters were introduced: Noni, voiced by Winnie Harlow, and Le Lion, voiced by Cress Williams. Marvel has also released images of several fighters aboard a ship adorned with a lion’s head.
Showrunner Todd Harris shared insights with Entertainment Weekly regarding the story’s development and its various sub-genres, including elements of espionage. “The story begins at the end of the Western Bronze Age, sparking a massive espionage narrative that resonates throughout time. It features a James Bond-esque character set against the backdrop of Wakanda’s splendor,” Harris explained. He also drew parallels between the defenders of Wakanda and the American CIA.
The premiere episode will be screened on June 9, 2025, at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival as part of a special event, preceding its official launch on Disney+ on August 6, 2025.
