The Star Wars universe is teeming with a variety of creatures, ranging from terrifying to adorable. Among them are some particularly grotesque beings that add a layer of intrigue to the saga. This article explores 15 of the most notably repulsive creatures within the Star Wars franchise.
15) Wampa
Named after the icy wastelands of Hoth, the Wampa resembles a Yeti with its towering frame, white fur, and terrifying teeth. A carnivorous predator, this creature hunts the frozen plains of Hoth, but its encounter with Luke Skywalker in The Empire Strikes Back certainly tips the scales against it.
14) Zillo Beast
First appearing in The Clone Wars, the Zillo Beast is an enormous creature that resembles a blend of Godzilla and a giant worm. Thought to be extinct, it is awakened by an electro-proton bomb explosion. Instead of destroying it, Palpatine opts to capture the beast and transport it to Coruscant for research due to its remarkably resilient skin.
13) Brain Worm
Also introduced in The Clone Wars, brain worms are parasites capable of seizing control of their host’s mind. Originating from the planet Geonosis, they were once used by Queen Karina the Great during the Clone Wars. Remarkably, brain worms can even reanimate the dead by restoring limited function to a deceased brain. While they detest cold environments, these grotesque little creatures draw significant inspiration from the Facehugger of Alien.
12) Bor Gullet
Introduced in Rogue One, Bor Gullet is a Mairan creature with the ability to read the thoughts of its victims. Captured by Saw Gerrera on Jedha, Bor Gullet appears in Gareth Edwards’ film to probe the mind of pilot Bodhi Rook. With a design as a gelatinous, tentacled blob, it stands as both a repulsive and fascinating entity.
11) Geonosians
The Geonosians, prominently featured in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, are undeniably unattractive, resembling giant grasshoppers. They witnessed and became victims of the first clash between the Galactic Republic and the Separatists on Geonosis and were nearly exterminated by the Galactic Empire.
10) Exogorth
The Exogorth is a massive, albino worm that lurks within asteroids. Featured in The Empire Strikes Back, it swallows the Millennium Falcon whole. Initially safe while evading Imperial ships, the Falcon’s crew soon discovers they are trapped inside a giant worm. Measuring up to 1 km long, the Exogorth is made of silicon, possesses a pseudo-skeleton, and has stone-like teeth. These creatures can survive without oxygen and withstand intense cold and pressure in space. Exogorths frequently change their hiding spots within asteroids, but most of their time is spent concealed in caves.
9) Sarlacc
Introduced in Return of the Jedi, the Sarlacc resides in a massive pit in the desert of Tatooine. Equipped with sharp teeth and several-meter-long tentacles, it digests its victims over the course of nearly 1,000 years. Anyone who falls into the Sarlacc faces a slow and painful demise. Similar to a sand Kraken, its appearance resembles a living intestinal system.
8) Dianoga
The Dianoga has only revealed its surfaced form. In A New Hope, our heroes encounter a Dianoga when they fall into a garbage compactor. While only glimpsed with its long neck and immense eye, the Dianoga is much larger. Native to Vodran, it thrives in garbage-filled environments, often found on civilized planets like Coruscant. It can grow up to 10 meters long and weigh 95 kilograms, and, contrary to its movie appearance, it possesses immense tentacles.
7) Blurrg
Common throughout the Star Wars universe, Blurrg are four-legged reptiles that can also walk on two legs, known for their distinctly unattractive appearance. Domesticated, they often serve as mounts for heroes, especially in The Mandalorian. They run at a relatively high speed and possess a large mouth filled with sharp teeth, yet they are known to be quite docile and calm.
6) Salacious B Crumb
Do you remember Jabba the Hutt’s little pet? This rather ugly, warlike creature is named Salacious B Crumb. Originally living in secrecy on the Kwenn space station, he inadvertently ended up on Jabba’s dinner plate. The gluttonous Hutt took a liking to the tiny creature and decided to make him his jester. Salacious B Crumb became Jabba’s ward and was obliged to make the tyrant laugh at least once a day.
5) Mynocks
Returning to the asteroids of the Star Wars universe, we meet the Mynocks. These space bat-like creatures dwell in the shadows of asteroids and sometimes end up in the stomachs of Exogorths. They can grow up to 2 meters long and feed on non-organic matter, enabling them to thrive in hostile environments.
4) Rathtar
A notable creature from the sequel trilogy, the Rathtar is a highly aggressive entity with numerous tentacles and sharp teeth. They typically hunt in packs and have the ability to communicate among themselves. Rathtars can reach up to 6 meters long and weigh over 600 kg. They were often hunted on the planet Twon Ketee, particularly by Dark Maul.
3) Moof Milker
These large space walruses, known as Moof Milkers, reside on the planet where Luke trains. Docile and calm, they provide Luke with their delectably rich milk. However, their appearance is certainly less than appealing.
2) Rancor
A hallmark creature of the Star Wars franchise, the Rancor delighted fans in Return of the Jedi. A killing machine under the care of Jabba, it is kept imprisoned by the infamous Tatooine crime lord, who uses it to eliminate enemies and political rivals. The Rancor also makes an appearance in The Book of Boba Fett.
1) Jabba the Hutt
It’s hard to conclude this list without mentioning the infamous Jabba. As a giant, slimy slug, he embodies the epitome of repulsiveness. A cult character, Jabba is notorious for being a lazy and lascivious figure who holds Han Solo and Leia Organa captive until Luke comes to their rescue.
