The WNBA season is set to commence on May 8, and ahead of the tip-off, players are benefiting from a newly negotiated collective bargaining agreement. Every player in the league is receiving a pay increase, enabling free agent stars to secure contracts that exceed any previous deals in WNBA history.
Aliyah Boston Makes History with Contract Extension
One standout example is Aliyah Boston, a three-time All-Star forward. She recently signed a monumental four-year contract extension with the Indiana Fever, valued at $6.3 million. This deal marks the largest in the history of the WNBA.
In 2026, Boston is set to earn $1 million, slightly less than the maximum of $1.19 million she could have secured. By taking a modest pay cut, she has ensured that her teammates, including rising star Caitlin Clark, will also benefit from higher salaries. Over the next three seasons, Boston’s contract will account for 20% of the team’s salary cap.

Budding Career and Future Prospects
Boston was selected first overall by the Fever in the 2023 WNBA Draft and instantly made her mark by winning the Rookie of the Year award. The following year, she began playing alongside Caitlin Clark, the top draft pick in 2024. Together with veteran guard Kelsey Mitchell, they propelled the team to reach the WNBA semifinals.
Throughout her career, Boston has averaged 14.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game. She boasts a shooting accuracy of 54.7% from the field and has earned All-Star honors in each season since her debut.
This year, she also secured a spot on the All-WNBA Second Team and made the All-Defensive Second Team. This recognition allows Boston to replace her original agreement with her new contract, setting her up for a potential supermax deal a season earlier than expected.
As she embarks on this new chapter, Boston is looking to lead the Fever towards their first championship since she was just ten years old, further solidifying her place in WNBA history.
