LeBron James, approaching his 41st birthday, is gearing up for his 23rd season in the NBA. While speculation about his retirement continues, James insists his passion for basketball remains as strong as ever.

The lingering question for fans and analysts alike is whether James will retire in 2026 or extend his illustrious career for a while longer.

LeBron’s Continued Love for the Game

As anticipation builds for the upcoming NBA season, whispers suggest that James might announce his retirement soon. However, recent comments from the superstar seem to contradict this notion.

In an interview with legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk on the platform UNINTERRUPTED, LeBron affirmed that he does not feel exhausted after 22 years in the league. He expressed his enduring love for the sport, stating:

“I still love training. I love being on the court, feeling the ball, watching it float through the air and through the net, hearing the sound of the ball bouncing and the squeak of shoes on the floor.

I have the same feelings I did when I first started playing basketball, back in middle school and high school. I still experience some of the same emotions I felt as a rookie when I was drafted.

I wake up early, pack my bag, and prepare everything for my workout. And when I step onto the court, it’s still an amazing feeling.”

Physical Challenges vs. Mental Freshness

Despite acknowledging that he is physically on a “downhill slope,” LeBron is mentally invigorated. His unwavering dedication to training and performance suggests that he is not ready to hang up his jersey just yet. According to James, as long as he feels motivated to prepare daily, he intends to keep playing.
