In recent years, the Buffalo Bills have solidified their status as one of the NFL’s premier teams. Starting in 2020, they have consistently won at least 11 regular-season games, made significant playoff runs, and boast a star quarterback in Josh Allen. This offseason, the Bills aimed to enhance their roster further by signing defensive end Joey Bosa, who brings both talent and experience to the team.
Buffalo Bills Strengthen Their Roster with Joey Bosa
After being released by the Los Angeles Chargers, defensive end Joey Bosa signed a one-year contract worth $12.6 million with the Buffalo Bills just eight days later on March 13. The team is looking to capitalize on his potential to bolster their defense as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Injury Concerns Ahead of Training Camp
As the Bills commence their organized team practices (OTAs), head coach Sean McDermott revealed that Bosa will not be participating due to a pulled calf muscle. McDermott mentioned that Bosa is likely to be sidelined for “more than likely the foreseeable springtime,” with prospects for return set for July 24 when training camp begins.
While Bosa’s presence is anticipated, concerns linger regarding his health. Turning 30 this summer, Bosa has faced multiple injuries over the past few seasons, concluding his Chargers tenure with three injury-riddled years. He has struggled with foot injuries, a concussion, and more recently, a groin tear that necessitated surgery, limiting him to just 28 out of a possible 51 games during his last three seasons in Los Angeles.
Last year, Bosa managed to play in 14 games, achieving 22 combined tackles, five sacks, and two forced fumbles. Despite this, calf injuries pose particular challenges for defensive ends who rely heavily on explosive movements to reach quarterbacks and running backs.
Fortunately, the Bills have ample time before the start of the season. By prioritizing Bosa’s recovery now, the team aims to ensure he can make a significant impact when it counts the most during the playoffs.
