The Los Angeles Clippers faced a crucial opportunity to advance in the NBA Cup last night but fell short against the Memphis Grizzlies, losing 112-107. Leading by 13 points at halftime, the Clippers’ struggles continue, raising concerns about their performance this season.
Game Recap of the Recent Defeat
Some losses sting more than others. Despite a rocky start to the season, the Los Angeles Clippers were favored to win against a Memphis Grizzlies team missing star player Ja Morant. With the possibility of qualifying for the NBA Cup’s knockout stage, the stakes were high. Unfortunately for the Clippers, their challenges persisted, and they were unable to secure the win.
James Harden delivered a solid performance with 23 points and 11 assists, while Kawhi Leonard shone brightly, scoring 39 points in just 29 minutes. The Clippers had a promising lead at halftime, yet they succumbed to the Grizzlies’ bench in the second half.
Coach Tyronn Lue’s Reflections
In the post-game press conference, head coach Tyronn Lue expressed frustration over a consistent issue:
“In the third quarter, I don’t know what it is. I try to get them out early, do different things, and warm them up on the floor, but the third quarter … that’s been our Achilles heel all year.”
Upon returning from halftime, the Clippers surrendered 28 points in just 12 minutes while only scoring 18 themselves.
With a record of 5 wins and 14 losses across their first 19 games this season, the Clippers currently sit in 12th place in the Western Conference. General Manager Sam Presti of the Oklahoma City Thunder is certainly pleased with this development, as he holds the Clippers’ 2026 draft pick.
