A new port of a major game may soon be launched on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Following the success of titles such as Cyberpunk 2077, Hogwarts Legacy, and Civilization VII, another high-profile release could take advantage of the console’s enhanced capabilities.
New Port on the Horizon for Switch 2?
Major publishers, including Ubisoft, Microsoft, CD Projekt, and Capcom, have shown strong interest in the hardware of the Switch 2, allowing the console to host a range of ports right from its launch. Alongside the exclusive Mario Kart World, the device boasts over a dozen titles that are among the best in the video game industry in recent years.
This presents an excellent opportunity to test the console’s capabilities, especially given that some previous Switch ports showcased its technical limitations. Comparatively, the Nintendo versions of Cyberpunk 2077 and Hogwarts Legacy hold their own against the original releases for PS5 and Xbox Series. Even though they do not run at 60 fps, they function well at 30 fps in docked mode. Graphically, both Hogwarts and Night City remain pleasant environments, despite some blurry textures. CD Projekt has consistently emerged as a loyal partner to Nintendo since the initial launch of The Witcher 3 on the original Switch.
CD Projekt: A Key Partner for Nintendo
Under these circumstances, the question of a Switch 2 version is a hot topic among players. The Witcher 3, which has sold over 60 million copies and is a landmark in the open-world RPG genre, has already seen releases on Switch (2019) and later on PS5 and Xbox Series XIS to boost its sales further. This tremendous success may have sparked new ideas at CD Projekt.
According to the host of the Nontendo Podcast, featured on YouTube’s BeatEmUps channel, there is a major Nintendo Direct event scheduled for July, where one of the announcements is expected to involve the porting of The Witcher III: Wild Hunt to the Switch 2. However, details regarding the date of the event and the technical specifications of this potential version remain unspecified.
While this information should be regarded with caution, it seems unlikely that CD Projekt would pass up such an opportunity. When asked about it last April, the studio chose to sidestep the issue but expressed satisfaction with their ongoing relationship with the Japanese manufacturer, highlighting their contentment with the arrival of Cyberpunk 2077 on the Switch 2.
Although there is no definitive indication that Geralt of Rivia’s adventures will come to the Switch 2 in the near future, a port would be well-deserved, especially considering the technical limitations faced by the earlier Nintendo version. With upgraded hardware, it is believed that a port of The Witcher 3 would be a resounding success.
